Research

I am PhD candidate working with Prof. Kishor S Trivedi.

I am interested in Availability Performance and Reliability analysis, Autonomic Computing, Distributed Systems and Computational Biology.
Availability world is very interesting. When downtime should be only 5.26 minutes/year to achieve 0.99999 (five 9s) availability, what about software giants claiming five 9s availabiltiy? I thought their claims are not true, but are model-based. I used to think whether such claims can ever be achieved practically? Gray and Reuter's book on Transaction Processing taught me that five 9s is indeed practically acheivable, but with a lot of difficulty. If you want to know how, have a look at my slides in PDF.
Related approach to achieve high-availability is to pro-actively rejuvenate the software by predicting the failure before failure actually happens. This approach is called Software Rejuvenation.
