Setup

Please be very careful handling the servo controller boards.

  1. Adjust the unmounted power supply to 5.0 V (Use the multimeter). Limit the current from this supply to 0.5 A if current limiting is available. Connect this supply to the +5 V terminal and ground by clipping the alligator clips of the power supply to the top of the banana jacks. (See Figure gif).

    *****WARNING*****

.vspace0.1in Do not unscrew the banana jacks. Unscrewing the banana jacks can result in the disconnection of wires on the bottom of the boards.

  2. Adjust the HP E3611A power supply to +1 V. Connect this supply to DC Signal and ground. Again, please do not unscrew the banana jacks. You can clip the ground terminal of the second power supply to the ground terminal of the first power supply.

  3. Flip the toggle switch on the servo controller board and observe that the red light emitting diode (LED) located next to the switch is illuminated. Power to the TTL components and some of the op-amps is supplied by the +5V and -5V voltage regulators connected to the 9 volt batteries. The voltage regulators are shown in Figure gif. One of the regulators is mounted above the 555 timer and the other is mounted below the LM324 Quad Op-Amp. The gray rectangles in Figure gif near the regulators are cermet potentiometers which are used to trim the voltage regulators. The cermet potentiometers have been set, and no adjustment of them is required by the students.
