and in particular throughout India to serve as local contact and service
volunteers. Access to E-mail would be very helpful in facilitating rapid
communications.
Who can be a volunteer? :
Any person committed to nature conservation and
who is interested to offer his/her services can join the network. However
the following minimum requirements must be fulfilled in order to be a
member of the network to ensure that the basic goals of the
networking are realized:

organization eg educational institutions, NGO, government department, Armed Forces, Police,
private sector firm, etc
Persons belonging to other categories would be considered on case by case
basis.

identification card.
Network of volunteers:
The Network of volunteers consists of all the people who have joined ASCI and are spread all across Indian subcontinent and the world. The formation of a network of ASCI volunteers throughout India and abroad will help initiate a coordinated and transparent machinery to launch new projects, verify projects in the field and bring the best available talent and skills to bear on these projects.
Functions of individual volunteers in India:
Each volunteer in a particular location will be the nodal contact for that
sub-sector and
is expected to fulfill the following:
Initiate or encourage high priority projects in the sector after
familiarizing themselves with the forest and ecological issues in that
region. Quality of information should be accorded the highest priority.
The principal objectives of ASCI should be borne in mind while performing
the services of an ASCI volunteer.
Verify existing ASCI projects in the field and post updates on
progress and followup.
Respond to queries and questions about ongoing or proposed projects in
the sector.
Build up a local network of volunteers to help with these services.
Functions of individual volunteers abroad:
The main burden of raising resources for projects in India lies with
the volunteers abroad. The main functions of ASCI volunteers abroad is to:
Raise financial resources through personal donations, phonathons,
fund-raisers etc for specific ASCI projects or for supporting general
functions of ASCI. Collect or receive cheques or cash donated for
specific ASCI projects and ensure that either the donor is assisted in
sending his/her contribution directly or take responsibility of sending
the contribution to the target organization.
Spread the network of ASCI voluteers by personal contact and posting
in various electronic and institutional fora.
Offer technical and computer services for maintaining and expanding
ASCI web page attributes.
Volunteers are also requested to help ASCI directly by sharing disc space and maintenance of web services.
