- WRITING 20: University Writing Program, required in first year.
- Chemistry and Physics: PHYSICS 41L, PHYSICS 42L and CHEM 21L are a preferred sequence in place of CHEM 21L, PHYSICS 61L and PHYSICS 62L for program starting in first semester of the first year. AP credit CHEM 19 is also acceptable for CHEM 21L.
- SS-H: Social Sciences and Humanities, 5 required semester-course electives, appropriately distributed.
- Elective PHYSICS Course: Any PHYSICS course at the 100 level or above, excluding PHYSICS 171L, Electronics, and PHYSICS 230, Mathematical Methods in Physics.
- EE Concentration Electives: Four courses selected from the set approved for the EE program. Courses must be selected from at least two areas, and at least two courses must be from one area.
- Elective ECE Course: Any ECE course not otherwise included in the student's program.
- Approved ECE Design Elective: Approved Electrical Engineering Design Elective, required in Junior or Senior year. Currently ECE 123, 135, 154, 164, 251 and 261 are approved. If any of these courses is used both as an Approved ECE Design Elective and to complete an EE Concentration requirement, another Elective ECE Course is required.
- Independent Study: Accepted for Duke BSE course credits and one Elective ECE Course, but not for other required courses.
