Printing
ECE network printing is centralized and handled through the main print server, franklin.ee.duke.edu.
Windows Printing
See the Windows Printer Setup document for instructions on setting up ECE network printers on Windows. If you do not know the queuename of the printer you want to set up, check the list of available printers on login.ee.duke.edu by running "lpstat -a", or contact ECE Computer Support.
Solaris/Linux Printing
Configuration of network printers on Solaris and Linux machines is handled centrally. Available printers on these machines can be see by typing "lpstat -a" at the commandline. The default printer for all Solaris and Linux machines is hp or hp161, which is located in 161 Hudson Hall. If a printer you need to print to is not on the list of available printers, please contact ECE Computer Support.
Purchasing Printers
Before purchasing a new printer, please contact ECE Computer Support for information on how to choose the best brand and model for your application. Some printers work better in our multi-OS environment than others. Printers to be used by a group should at a minimum have a network card and support Postscript.
