Accessing Email
Your ECE email can be accessed through several methods.
GUI-based email client (Outlook, Mozilla Mail, Mulberry, Thunderbird, etc)
- IMAP server: mail.ee.duke.edu
- Use IMAP with SSL, port 993
- SMTP server, within department: smtp.ee.duke.edu
- SMTP server, outside ECE or off campus: smtp.duke.edu, use SSL and authenticate with NetID/password
- Note: Thunderbird, Netscape, and Mozilla mail require that you first set up the account, then edit it afterwards to set IMAP to use SSL. If you cannot connect to the mail server initially, check your account settings to be sure that your "Server Settings" are set to use SSL (check the "use secure connection" box) and port 993.
Terminal-based email client (pine, mutt, etc)
The ECE login server, login.ee.duke.edu, and all standard ECE Linux and Solaris workstations have the pine and mutt mail clients installed. Simply type "pine" or "mutt" at the command line to use these clients. For details on this software, see the pine and mutt man pages, as well as the Pine Information Center and Mutt Web Page.
